Jo Berry

Jo Berry, recipient of the 2024 Trustbuilding Awards Lifetime Achiever honoor, was recently appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) by King Charles in recognition of her extraordinary service to peace and reconciliation. Her lifelong work to promote healing and understanding, including her dialogue with Patrick Magee—the man responsible for the 1984 Brighton bombing that killed her father—continues to inspire communities around the world.

Jo is featured in a new documentary, The Hardest Bridge, directed by IofC’s Exective Director Imad Karam and which explores her journey toward reconciliation. A recent pre-release screening in Newbury, UK, offered attendees a moving opportunity to engage with Jo in person. The film has already sparked new initiatives, including an event organized by the chair of West Berkshire Council titled Revenge or Reconciliation: After War, What Next?, which will mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the war with Japan. These developments reflect the lasting impact of Jo’s message and the deep relevance of trustbuilding work today.
